“I am the 1%” is more than a statement on a shirt. For me, it is personal. It is a way to claim my voice, honor my journey, and say that what happened to me does not get to define all of who I am.
As a survivor of human trafficking, I carry a story that is mine to tell, in my own words and on my own terms. This design is an expression of that voice, with a blue awareness ribbon beside words that hold deep meaning for me.
I stand with those still in “the life,” those finding their way out, and those using their voices to lead the fight. I also hold space for those who never made it home. Their lives matter. They are not forgotten.
Survival is not a competition, and no percentage can measure a person’s worth. Every survivor deserves safety, dignity, and support, wherever they are in their journey. But the statistic is real only 1% make it out. I am part of the 1%.
This shirt is a piece of my story and a reminder to anyone who needs it: you are more than what happened to you. Your voice belongs to you. Your life matters.
